Dukes a candidate for State Representative

Having learned of Representative Melinda Gibbons Prunty’s decision to not seek re-election, I would like to take the opportunity to commend her on a job well done. She has represented the citizens of the 15th district with poise, dignity, and strength. She always takes the high road, is true to her convictions and stood her ground on any issues brought before her. Rep. Prunty exhibits grace and leadership at every opportunity and in every situation. We have been blessed and fortunate to have her in our corner these past three terms.

City Departments report on 2021 activity and projects

Morgantown City Council met on Thursday, January 13.  Each city department gave their respective reports on 2021 projects. 

The Utilities Board reported on new sewer and gas installations throughout the past year.  The department responded and repaired gas and water leaks.  Repairs were made at the sewer plant and there is potential for more to come in the future.  The water plant reported producing over 99 million gallons of water in 2021, while performing all test and samples as needed.

May Primary Ballot Positions Set

On Thursday January 27, candidates in the upcoming primary election drew for ballot positions at the Butler County Clerk’s Office.  Some candidates were unable to attend; however, they had others draw for their ballot position.  Only contested offices will appear on the May 17, 2022 ballot.  Ballot positions are as follows.

Senate bill seeks to crack down on porch pirates

FRANKFORT— A measure moving through the Kentucky Senate aims to rein in porch pirates, a nickname for people who steal packages off front porches.

Sponsored by Sen. David Yates, D-Louisville, Senate Bill 23 would make it a class D felony to steal or destroy packages from common carriers and delivery services – similar to the penalty for stealing U.S. mail. The measure cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee without opposition on Thursday.
