Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Evening TV programming has been changing. As I’ve previously confessed, this is the time of year that I watch more TV than normal, trying to choose favorites for the season. Until I decide, I may record one while watching another. Have you chosen the fall television shows that you plan to watch?

NBC provides good sports coverage, and the Friday night Dateline NBC will be a good program. FOX’s Bones is returning. It’s generally a good mystery. The new FOX shows, The Mob Doctor and The Mindy Project, look entertaining – and maybe a bit predictable.

SOUTHERNERS: In the south the hospital is more of a social gathering than anything else, the patient sometimes is given second place.  The occasion is more like a family outing.
Four aging women sat beside the hospital bed of another woman.  The woman in the bed was the patient waiting to go into surgery.  The sick woman was a sister to two of the other women and a double-first- cousin to the other two.
One of the “concerned” said, “Do y’all know that girl that married the Richardson boy?” Wasn’t that Emmie Lou Smith?”

Jeremy Hack: Low-Light Nightscapes

One of the most challenging, yet rewarding techniques in photography is working in very low light. Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to obtain aesthetically pleasing low light photos without utilizing a flash. In many cases, a flash will destroy the artistic mood of the shot as well as blow out the contrast. Of course there are some situations when flash is acceptable and unavoidable.

This week marks the premiere of the new fall television season. The Office got the head start on their final season, as they began last week.  Given how sparingly they roll out a new episode these days, however, they’ll probably end when every other show ends. The question is: how will the show end? One thing is fairly certain; don’t expect a Steve Carrell cameo.  By the way, former star Mindy Kailing also recognized a sinking ship.  She left after last season to begin her own show, The Mindy Project, which will premiere this week on FOX.

Competition may be defined as the process of trying to beat or do better than others. It may involve a planned or an unplanned activity. We see competitions every day, whether it’s a foot race between children or one driver pulling out in front of another. Competitions surround us.

Cheryl Hughes: It Just Doesn't Add Up

My husband, Garey, measures everything.  He will come into the room where I’m reading and say something like, “I think I can make room between the air compressor and the first kiln to make room for your second kiln.  I measured, and I’m about two inches short, but I can move the first kiln toward the door a bit and the air compressor toward the wall.”

Jeremy Hack: Tilt-Shift Photography

Since I graduated college last winter I have touched base with many artistic styles and disciplines with my photography. You'd be shocked at just how many schools of thought exist simply for photo styles. From panoramic to high speed photography, HDR priority to spectacular monochromatic styles, there are many specific styles. However I am not here this week to discuss any of those. This week I will be featuring a style known as Tilt-shift.

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Douglas Adams said, “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.” Some of life’s important events include weddings, graduations, and births. Important events may also include tragedies. Both the good and the bad affect us. Recently, I’ve been thinking about my life, dwelling on the happy moments.
I asked friends and family what little things in life make them happy. Those who answered were both male and female, ranging in age from 12 to 70 something. Their responses are below:
