Andy Sullivan: Against the Grain

Awhile back, while visiting my sister and brother-in-law in Mt. Juliet, they took me to eat at local Martin’s Barbeque Joint at 7238 Nolensville Road, Nolensville, TN 37135. The hours are Sunday thru Thursday 11 am-8 pm, Friday and Saturday 11 am-9 pm.  They have barbecue chicken, ribs, brisket, pork, turkey and a bunch of sides.  I recommend the pork plate, baked beans and fresh cut fries.  They even have the old school glass bottles of soft drinks.
Every business has a creed, unspoken or otherwise.  There is a tab on their website (www.martinsbbqjoint.com) that is titled Things We Know For Certain.  If you click on it, you’ll find you will find a 7-point plan.  It is as follows:
1)    Glitz got no flavor so we don’t waste no time with it.
2)    You can’t capture the pride of your first buck or bass, no matter how many megapixels you have.  But take the picture anyway and we’ll pin it to the wall.
3)    There is a line between joint and dive, and we never cross it.
4)    Low heat and slow smoke is always worth the time.
5)    “This aint no dress rehearsal.  We are professionals and this is the big time”-Waylon Jennings.
6)    We don’t have to do it this way. But we do, because we know you can taste the fakers.
7)    Never, ever forget the pig is the hero. (That one’s my favorite).
From the wonderful barbeque to the numerous sides and deserts (the pecan pie is spectacular) there’s no chance you’ll leave Martin’s hungry.  I even went to the counter to ask for extra sauce.  It’s THAT good.
If you find yourself in that area, Martin’s BBQ is definitely a must stop.  I had to text several friends about this place.  I always want to spread the word when I find a new eatery.  Head to their website for all other information you can imagine about this great place for barbeque.
