Cheryl Hughes: Faith, Hope, and Room for One More

If you call the Galilean Children’s Home in Liberty, Kentucky, more than likely, Jerry Tucker will answer the phone.  Jerry is the patriarch of the home—established in 1984—and continues to be a very hands-on guy.  His wife, Sandy, who founded and ran the home with her husband, passed away in June of 2007.

Jarrod Jacobs: “People Who Thought Too Highly Of Themselves”

When Paul wrote the Romans, he exhorted them, “not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly …” (Rom. 12:3). We must be careful not to think more highly of ourselves than we should. Many end up losing their influence, friends, and eventually their soul because they are filled with pride. Let us look at some people who thought too highly of themselves, and learn how we should not act.

Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

Here I go a-yondering again. Dad gum my wild soul.  Have you seen the new T.V. ad about Duluth Buck Naked Underwear? … “guaranteed not to bind, rideup, shrink or stink.”
“Feels like you ain’t wearing nothing underneath:  And this thing of not smelling bad, wonder how they pull that off?  That’d be like finding a cure for BUNK’UM CARBIDEUS or ALKALIDGENESE VISCOSIS.
For years I’ve wondered why first wife Bett could smell and taste things I couldn’t. This or that tastes funny, she would say.
Taste good to me,” I would say.

Debby Lanham: The view through my lens...

Oh the beauty of the country. When your driving the country roads, you just never know what you might ride upon.
This tractor has for sure seen its better days but I sure still enjoyed its beauty. This just reminds me to always thank the farmers for the numerous hours they put in daily.
Have a great weekend everyone!!!

Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

My eight-year-old granddaughter needed an injection for a strep infection last week. Since my granddaughter hates shots, her mom promised her a reward – a strawberry-banana milkshake – for getting the shot. Rewards often help us do the not-so-fun stuff.

Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan

What’s your favorite pizza chain? Do you take extras (salad bars, dessert pizza) into account? One response was as follows: Greg Drake says “Pizza King is a chain that may be only in Indiana, The best one is in Connersville. I had a fraternity brother from Connersville and I got hooked on it in college. Whenever I go to Indiana I try and find a pizza king. They have a flat crust, sell beer, and their Royal Feast is just that”.

Cheryl Hughes: Teachable Moment

Like every other little girl in America, my granddaughter, Sabria, is obsessed with the movie, “Frozen.”  She is particularly drawn to the character, Elsa, not because she is a beautiful but tragically misunderstood young woman, but because Elsa has the power to freeze everything around her with a simple wave of her hand.  Sabria considers this a super power; hence this makes Elsa a super hero.  Several times a day, I will be interrupted from the task at hand because I have been “frozen” by Elsa, aka, Sabria Grace Hughes.

Jarrod Jacobs: “Getting An Answer You Don’t Want”

An old saying oft-repeated is: “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.” In like manner, be careful when asking a question, you just might get an answer that you do not want! This is what happened when the rich young man came to Jesus asking what to do to inherit eternal life (Matt. 19:16). Jesus answered him, but the man received an answer he did not want, and he abandoned Jesus (Matt. 19:22).

Andy Sullivan: Against The Grain

The Inner Game of Music, written by Barry Green, is the book I’m reading at the moment.  The book really breaks down music in a way that I’ve not really read before.  This book isn’t about any one artist in particular.  It’s a little bit of a self-help book about music.
