Cheryl Hughes: Give Me A Reason

When our kids were small, my husband, Garey, would always talk to them with a very serious tone when he was trying to make a point.  He would never threaten, but he would warn and caution them about things, and say it in such a way that made them think, and sometimes even worry, about adverse consequences.  They were always coming to me with, Dad said this and Dad said that.  I was the sounding board off which they bounced his admonitions.

Debby Lanham: The view through my lens...

Visions of the Past-As I took this photo, I tried to imagine the hours the farmer that owned this put in each day. The hard work, the sweat, the respect for the land he had to have.
With the fall colors surrounding this almost hidden treasure, I thought it made for a very peaceful photo.
Enjoy your week and thank you for letting me share my passion.

Against The Grain by: Andy Sullivan

Let’s say you order something online or bought something at a store and it doesn’t fit.  You know the protocol: keep the receipt and put it with the item, put the item back in its original wrapping/casing and return.  There’s one problem: how in the world do you get the item back in its original casing? It’s next to impossible.

October 19-25 is Kentucky Retired Teachers’ Week. This week is a great time to notice how much retired teachers give back to their communities.

Cheryl Hughes: I Was Told There Would Be Fun

I slept eleven-and-one-half hours on Saturday night, and still had to force myself to get out of bed on Sunday morning.  When my husband, Garey, and I pulled into our driveway at 7 p.m. on Saturday evening, I fed my dogs, fed my cat, watched as Garey counted money at the kitchen table then crashed.

Letter to the Editor, from Betty Farris

Dear Editor,
It has been my pleasure to have known C. B. Embry for many years, meeting while we attended college together and then continuing our friendship as he entered into the political arena.  As C.B. enters into the senatorial race to represent the 6th Senatorial District I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the many areas he has worked with those of us in his district.

Jarrod Jacobs: "The Bible Has Lies In It"

Does the title above surprise you? Would it surprise you to learn that when said in its proper context, the above is true? I realize some folks say this in an effort to denounce the Bible. This is obviously not my purpose. However, when we spend time reading and studying God’s word, it will not take long before we notice several lies recorded for us in the Bible. Let us study a few examples together and make some applications.

Andy Sullivan: Against The Grain

Wednesday night, I had the opportunity to see the legendary Don Williams perform at the SKYPAC.  The 2010 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame put on a great show; and all he did was sit in a chair and play and sing.  That’s all he needed to do.  Sure, he may have fudged on a few lines or forgotten some lyrics, but the sold out crowd didn’t mind at all.  In fact, we helped him out by singing along to just about every song!

Some things that have been on my radar recently:
•    National Boss’s Day: Thursday, October 16
National Boss’s Day was created in 1958 by Patricia Haroski, a secretary at State Farm Insurance Company. The date is Patricia’s father’s birthday. How many bosses are out there? Approximately 6.7 million people are managers in the US or about 5% of the US workforce (http://www.happyworker.com/bossman/facts#.VDhfYRZhqLI).
