Patty Craig: A Slice of Time

Some things that have been on my radar recently:
•    National Boss’s Day: Thursday, October 16
National Boss’s Day was created in 1958 by Patricia Haroski, a secretary at State Farm Insurance Company. The date is Patricia’s father’s birthday. How many bosses are out there? Approximately 6.7 million people are managers in the US or about 5% of the US workforce (http://www.happyworker.com/bossman/facts#.VDhfYRZhqLI).

I’ve had some really great bosses in my life time (and only a couple of not-so-great ones). So, former bosses, on October 16th, I hope you have a great day!

•    Decorations around Town
The fall decorations around town look really nice. Thanks to those responsible!

•    November Election
According to the State Board of Elections Voter Turnout Report for the 2014 Primary Election, Butler County had 9,089 voters registered and 3,296 who actually voted:  36.3% of the registered population (an unofficial report; https://vr.sos.ky.gov/stats/voterturnoutcounty-2014P.pdf).  I hope the turnout for the general election will surpass the primary turnout.

•    Fall Memory
One of my favorite fall memories is of watching my late husband take newspaper pictures at BCHS football games. And, at half time, he always managed to take a few band pictures. Of course, our three daughters were all band members.

•    Pumpkin Pie
I’ve been looking for a pumpkin pie recipe and found the following that’s good and very easy (http://www.pillsbury.com/recipes/easy-pumpkin-pie/5793eb83-dca1-45e0-96e...):

Ingredients
 ¾ c. sugar
1 ½ tsp. pumpkin pie spice
½ tsp. salt
1 can (15 oz.) pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
1 ¼ c. evaporated milk or half and half
2 eggs, beaten
1 frozen deep-dish pie crust or 2 regular pie crusts
Directions
Heat oven to 425°F. In large bowl, mix filling ingredients. Pour into pie crust.
Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350°F; bake 40 to 50 minutes longer or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool 2 hours. Serve or refrigerate until serving time (Store in refrigerator.).

As Sidney Poitier once said, “So much in life, it seems to me, is determined by pure randomness.” These autumn topics caught my attention. And, they are purely random.
