Heritage Animal Hospital: Coggins Clinic April 16-20

There will be a Equine Infectious Anemia (Coggins) Clinic held the week of April 16th-20th at Heritage Animal Hospital. Coggins Tests which tests for EIA will be $22 per horse. If you have a group of 10 or more and you live within 10 miles there will be no farm trip fee charged and the fee will be $18 per horse. Regular fee is $26.40 per horse. Equine vaccines will also be discounted 10%.

Morel Mushrooms: The Hunt Is On

A cool spring rain Saturday afternoon just might be the signal to prepare for a trip to the woods. Postings on the Kentucky message board at www.morels.com  reveal another season of anxious morel hunters in our area and elsewhere. April 1-15 is mentioned often as a possible peak, but it’s all about the weather.

Super Science Saturday at BCHS

Butler County High School Science Club student and teacher members will be hosting a Fall Super Saturday on April 14, 2012, from 8:30am to 2:00pm with a theme of “Survivor.”  Students will participate in a variety of biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science events, scavenger hunt, and build compasses, barometers, and more!

Local archers participate in the NFAA Annual Indoor Archery Contest

The NFAA (National Field Archery Associaiton) held their annual indoor archery contest at Chickasaw Archery in Shepherdsville on February 25 and 26. 18 archers from D & G Hunting & Archery met at Shoney's in Elizabethtown and had breakfast hosted by D & G. After competition, 8 archers had placed first and second. They were Sherman Bailey, Luke Embry, Gerald Hawkins, Deniece Hawkins, Jimmy McQuady, Mark Alford, Kyle Stewart, and Brad Waldrop. NBES Academic Team Competes in Regional Governor's Cup

North Butler Elementary Academic Team competed in Regional Governor’s Cup competition on Saturday, March 17, 2012.  Sierra Woodcock, Sarah Belcher, Colten Bratcher, and Camryn Newland competed in various events including Composition and Written Assessment on Saturday.

$1500 Scholarships Available from Community Action of Southern KY

Community Action of Southern Kentucky is accepting applications for a $1,500 Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) Scholarship.  The CSBG Scholarship helps provide training or retraining required for the 10-County job market.  The CSBG Scholarship is open to income-eligible individuals wanting to return to school OR continue their education.  Scholarship benefits can be applied to fees, tuition, or textbooks at a college/university, vocational/technical school, or trade/professional program.

What does the future hold? BCHS hosts "Career Day"

WKYU presents during the broadcasting session

Each student at Butler County High School got a taste of what their future may hold when they attended Career Day last Wednesday. Students sat through two sessions hearing from individuals working in 54 different fields ranging from military to art teacher to mortician.

Karla Coles, coordinator of the event, said, "Our Career Day falls in conjunction with Operation Preparation, a statewide college/career-readiness initiative. Career Day is the one big event where students get to hear two thirty minute presentations of their choice in a field they are interested in."
