Super Science Saturday at BCHS

Butler County High School Science Club student and teacher members will be hosting a Fall Super Saturday on April 14, 2012, from 8:30am to 2:00pm with a theme of “Survivor.”  Students will participate in a variety of biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science events, scavenger hunt, and build compasses, barometers, and more!

This day camp is for students in grades 4 through 8.  Students participating in Super Saturday will not only make items dealing with science, they will also receive snacks, lunch, and a T-shirt.  The price of the day camp is $20 for the first child with the cost of each additional child of only $10.

If you would like your child to participate, please complete the attached registration and send a check payable to BCHS Science Club with “Super Saturday” in the memo.  You may drop this off at the high school or mail this to BCHS, attn: Jennifer Davis, 1147 South Main Street, Morgantown, KY 42261.

The absolute last day to register for Super Saturday is April 9th.

Once registration is complete, students who have registered will receive a detailed letter on the specifics of the day, drop-off and pick-up arrangements, and other logistics. Please complete the registration form completely, including zip code, so we can make sure you get all of the details!

We are hoping to offer scholarships to students in need of financial assistance.  If you have a business that would like to make a donation for student scholarships, please contact me and we will get their name on our t-shirts!

If you have any questions or concerns about anything pertaining to Super Saturday, please email [email protected] or call Jennifer Davis at 270-526-2204.  Thanks for your help and we look forward to seeing you at Super Saturday!

Could you survive on your own…..
Students will participate in two 1.5 hour sessions (descriptions are listed below).  Please rank your choices by placing numbers 1-4 (1 being most desirable) in the blank beside the session description.

____  Session A: Could you survive in the wilderness on your own? Let us prepare you. In this session, you will build your own shelter and learn how to start your own fire.

____  Session B: Have you ever been lost…never again? In this session, you will build your own compass, which will become a valuable tool in the scavenger hunt at the conclusion of the day.  You will be trained by a former Navy Seal on how to navigate and survive.

____  Session C: Learn how to perform first aid from a certified nurse.  You will practice crucial techniques that would help you survive injuries in the wilderness. You will also put together your own first aid kit.

____  Session D: Are you fascinated by tornadoes and hurricanes?  Come listen to a trained meteorologist share his storm stories. You will make your own barometer and Galileo thermometer and learn to read a weather map to make predictions.

All of these skills you will utilize in a team scavenger hunt throughout the school campus. Lunch will be provided, although you may have to do a little cooking, aka roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Come experience the wilderness through science!
