The Butler County Sheriff’s Department made arrests on a variety of offenses over the weekend. Misty Dawn Drake, 35, of Morgantown, was arrested on Thursday, January 26, by Sheriff Scottie Ward after a complaint that Drake was intoxicated and "out of control."

The Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce held its first luncheon of 2012 at the Butler County Extension Service office on Thursday, January 26. The Chamber welcomed a few new faces to the board with Roger Southerland, Mike Coleman, and Ricky Romans all joining the board this year.

Beechtree Radio and non-profit Cell Phones for Soldiers Inc. are asking Butler County residents to help troops call home by donating gently-used cellular phones. With ongoing deployments to combat areas and elsewhere, as many as 369,000 troops are serving in the U.S. military overseas.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call from Ward Anderson on Tuesday night around 6:00pm. Deputy Heath West arrived at 5959 South Hill-Union Road to find Anderson and James Givens preventing individuals from leaving the property. Ray A.
Last Wednesday afternoon. January 18, more than 25 Aleris employees were informed they would no longer have jobs with the company. According to some of those individuals, they were told they were being laid off and that their medical insurance would run out at midnight that night.

The 2012 Bearfest festivities were held on Friday, January 20 after the first game of a girl-boy double header against South Warren. C.W. Decker and Madison Embry were crowned Bearfest King and Queen in front of the packed stands.
