Butler County Livestock Club Competes at KY 4-H State Skillathon

On Saturday, February 18th, the Butler County Halter Holders Livestock Club competed at the KY 4H State Skillathon in Madisonville, KY. They competed against other 4-Hers in the same age groups of Clovers (9-11) and Intermediates (12-14).

Butler County participants included:  Clovers - Carlee Mitchell, Kadie Hunt, Mattie Wells & Olivia Dunn; Intermediates - Kiana Coleman & Ashley Merideth.  Also competing were our Cloverbuds - Mackenzie Coleman & Lydia Wells. The girls placed as follows:

Kentucky FSA Celebrates National Ag Day

Lexington, KY – On Thursday, Kentucky Farm Service Agency State Executive Director John W. McCauley marked the celebration of National Ag Day by recognizing the continuing hard work of Kentucky farmers and ranchers.  National Ag Day presents an opportunity each year to highlight the importance of farmers and ranchers in America’s overall economy; acknowledge and promote career opportunities in agricultural industries; and educate the public on how food, fiber and renewable resource products are produced.

Dairy Producers Reminded of MILC Program

Kentucky March 1, 2012 — The Kentucky Farm Service Agency would like to remind dairy producers of some important program eligibility requirements for payment under the Milk Income Loss Contract program (MILC). FSA State Executive Director John W. McCauley says dairy prices may authorize potential MILC payments, but all dairy producers need to be aware of the program requirements should those conditions arise.

Dairy operators currently enrolled in MILC, need to notify the local county office if there have been any changes to their dairy operation.

Nap Application Closing Dates for Crops fast Approaching

Lexington, KY – The deadlines to file an application for natural disaster protection under the Noninsured Assistance Program (NAP) are March 1 and March 15.

The crops for the March 1 deadline are: Alfalfa, Clover, Grass, Mixed Grass intended for grazing, hay, or seed, and TEFF.

Commissioner Comer: Voluntary Donations to Ag Fund Will Be Split Evenly Among 4-H, FFA, and Kentucky Proud

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Agriculture Commissioner James Comer joined Kentucky 4-H and Kentucky FFA leaders to announce that proceeds from voluntary donations to the Agricultural Program Trust Fund will be divided equally among 4-H, FFA, and Kentucky Proud.

Second annual Farm Machinery Show trip a success

On Wednesday, a total of 38 area farmers and other agriculture minded individuals took advantage of the second annual bus tour of the National Farm Machinery show being held at Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. The trip was sponsored by both Butler County Farm Bureau, who arranged for bus transportation and Morgantown Bank and Trust, who provided a hardy breakfast and snacks later. The 47th annual show runs February 15-18.

USDA Invites Minority Producers To Join USDA Minority Farm Register

MORGANTOWN – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) invites minority farmers and ranchers in Butler  County and across the nation to voluntarily join the USDA Minority Farm Register to receive information and opportunities from USDA agencies.

4-H Youth Recognized at Area Achievement Banquet

Butler County 4-H youth were recently recognized for their accomplishments at the Mammoth Cave Area Achievement Banquet held at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY on Monday, December 12th.

4-H youth from Butler County and surrounding counties came together to enjoy a museum tour, catered meal, and an awards ceremony to recognize participants for individual and team awards received from various 4-H activities.  Butler County 4-H youth recognized are listed below:

Sell Your Cattle Locally

 Butler County beef producers can sell some of their production animals without having to haul them out of Butler County.  The Butler County Stockman’s Association will be having a beef cattle production sale on Saturday, March 10, 2012.  The sale will be at the Eva. Hawes Ag. Expo Building, located at the Morgantown City Park.  

 Last year’s sale was a huge success.  Farmers can sell open or bred heifers and young registered bulls.  Farmers can also sell young cows at this unique marketing opportunity.  Commission is 6%, this is a very competitive marketing expense.

Kentucky Farm Bureau concludes 92nd annual meeting with adoption of new policy

Louisville, KY (December 3, 2011) – Kentucky Farm Bureau (KFB) concluded its 92nd annual meeting here today with voting delegates adopting policy for 2012 and the Board of Directors approving condensed lists of priority issues. Federal legislative issues such as farm commodity programs, environmental regulations and farm labor laws were prominent on the list.
