Cheryl Hughes: Take Me There

My husband, Garey, has several times made the observation, “You’re always jumping into the water to save somebody and you don’t even know how to swim.”  He is speaking figuratively about the way I go out of my way to help people then often find myself in over my head.  I always respond the same way, “There was nobody else standing on the bank.”  Garey uses the analogy, because I literally don’t know how to swim—well, maybe enough to be able to save myself if I happen to fall into a dishpan.

Jarrod Jacobs: Getting Angry At The Wrong Things

The population of man usually acts in exactly the opposite manner as God (Isa. 5:20-23). God’s ways are higher than man’s (Isa. 55:8-9). It is not in man that walks to direct his steps (Jer. 10:23). At the same time, it is possible for us to know God’s will and act upon it when we read and obey the word of God (Phil. 4:8-9)!

Seeing that man tends to think in the opposite manner as God, it should be no surprise that man would get angry at the wrong things as well. Often, the things which anger God do not anger man, and vice versa. Please consider the following examples:

The Password Game-How many passwords do you have to keep up with? How frequently do you change these passwords? Lots of organizations require mandatory password changes because it’s long been considered a “security best” practice aka it’s what’s “best for business”.

I often repeat something written or spoken by someone else, giving credit to the original speaker. Many of us use quotes in writing and in conversation. Quotes are often used to summarize or to motivate.

Cheryl Hughes: Fly Away

“There’s a dead cow under our house,” my husband, Garey informs me as I find my way into the kitchen for my morning cup of coffee.
“Oh really,” I say, as I start the caffeine brew.
“There’s gotta be,” he says, “I’ve been killing flies for twenty minutes.”

Jarrod Jacobs: The Crucifixion Of Christ

The Bible speaks very matter-of-factly about the crucifixion of Christ. We know that this event was a matter of prophecy in the Old Testament (Gen. 3:15; Ps. 22; Isa. 53; Dan. 9:26). We also know that Christ alluded to this event, declaring that He would die by crucifixion (Matt. 16:21, 17:23, 20:19; Mk. 9:31, 10:34; Lk. 9:22, 18:31-33, 24:7). When the time came, the Holy Spirit inspired the writers to say simply: “They crucified him” (Matt. 27:35; Mk. 15:25; Lk. 23:33; Jn. 19:18).

Spotify and I were very happy for years.  Even through change on their part, I stuck with them.  Suddenly, my music got interrupted with gaps of blank space between songs.  After a few weeks of this, I became fed up.  After much consideration, I left Spotify for Pandora.  The first few weeks with Pandora were much like any new relationship: exciting and new.  After some time, that newness wore off.

Choosing a career was one of the hardest decisions that I ever made. Some people seem able to make that decision easily, while others – like me – struggle for a while. I watched my children go through the career decision-making process, and now my older grandchildren are at that point in their lives. People arrive at their decisions in different ways.

Oh Snap-ple! The Next Generation-’ve always said that I don’t like the drink but I sure do love these little facts on the cap.  Did you know it was against the law to use the “Star Spangled Banner” as dance music in Massachusetts? I’m more amazed that anyone would use the “Star Spangled Banner” as dance music.  It’d be a slow, majestic dance.
