Andy Sullivan: Against The Grain

Internet dating has gotten a bad rap.  Sometimes rightfully so but most times not so rightfully.  There are rules, obviously, as there are with anything online (and even offline).  The first thing you get told on any reputable dating site is to not give out your email address or phone number.  You would think that would be a no-brainer.  You would be wrong.

Pope Francis’ recent visit to the United States – with stops in New York, Washington and Philadelphia – was the first U.S. visit for this pope. Pope Francis experienced massive crowds, massive security and massive media coverage. Seeing the pope interact with crowds of people clearly showed why he has been called “the people’s pope.”

On Saturday, I watched my granddaughter perform at the Hoses and Hot Rods festival in Hartford.  She is part of the young performance team in Moira Givens’ Dance Academy, in Morgantown.  I enjoy the little ones.  They are all over the place with their own ideas about which moves should go where.  The Dance Academy also features a group of older girls—middle school age—who are a lot more synchronized in their movements.

Jarrod Jacobs: “Luke 17:32 - Remember Lot’s Wife”

Luke 17:32 (“Remember Lot’s wife”) has reference to what happened to Lot’s wife after the family fled Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19. As Lot and his family were leaving (II Pet. 2:6-9), they were warned not to look back to the city lest they “be consumed” (Gen. 19:17). As humans are wont to do, Lot’s wife did that very thing she was told not to do and “became a pillar of salt” (Gen. 19:26). Having been promised safety by God through obedience, when she sinned, she paid the penalty for her disobedience.

Fall has arrived.  It’s 80 degrees as I’m writing this but, hey, the season is here.  Fall brings pumpkin spice lattes, hot chocolate(eventually), fall festivals, Halloween and the new television season.  Lots of shows premiere this week(or already have).

The fall primetime schedule has just begun. Although each seasons’ programming differs, the fall schedule seems to offer more new options. I enjoy choosing programs for my watch-if-I-can list. At the beginning of the season, my DVR will get a workout.

I was watching the interview with the woman who was shot while being interviewed by the journalist and camera man who were shot and killed a couple of weeks ago.  The woman, who spent several days recovering in the hospital, said her life had actually flashed before her eyes while she lay bleeding on the ground.  As she lay there, she thought, “You know, I’ve had a pretty good life, and I’m ready to go if it’s my time to go.”

Jarrod Jacobs: “Noah Condemned The World By Faith”

How many times have we heard people say words to the effect, “If you tell me that there is only one way to Heaven, then you are condemning me (or my family, etc.).”? Is this a valid charge?
