William "Bill" Goebel Phillips, Jr.

William “Bill” Goebel Phillips, Jr., age 77, of Morgantown, Ky. passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, June 18, 2024.  Bill was born September 25, 1946, to the late Mary W. and William G. Phillips in St. Charles, KY.  He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and building things, and was very proud of his service to our country in the United States Air Force.  He loved his home on the Green River alongside his wife, Janet, and enjoyed sharing it with friends and family.  Throughout the years he always gave time to the community he worked and lived in, being active in the United Way, Junior Achievement and Rochester Fire Department.  His most important role in life, though, was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and brother.  He enjoyed every minute he spent with family, doting on his grandchildren and teaching his children to be dedicated to a good life with work and fun.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Dorothy, Lois and Hilda; brothers Bobby, Earl, Frank and Jimmie; in-laws Rex and Thelma Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Taylor Phillips; children Brian Scott Phillips, Amy Elizabeth Mendez and husband Tony, Craig Alan Phillips and wife Jennifer; grandchildren Sadie Elizabeth Phillips, Taylor Elizabeth Wysong and husband Kasen, Brayden Thomas Phillips and Ace William Phillips; step-grandchildren Derek and Mia Mendez and Olivia and Harper Richardson; great grandsons Liam Dei, Callen Rone and Brooks Anthony Wysong; brothers-in-law Bill Taylor and Terry Blaner; several loving nieces and nephews.

The family will host a Celebration of Life at their home on the Green River on Saturday, June 22 from 4:00pm until 6:00pm with Bro. Steve Rutherford officiating.  Military Honors will be presented by the Ohio Co. Honor Guard.  All family and friends are invited to come and share their memories of Bill with us.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Air Force Aid Society or Hospice of Southern Kentucky.  Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
