Wilbur Ray Garrett

Wilbur Ray Garrett, 78, of Bowling Green, passed away Oct. 3, 2013, at his residence at 2:30 p.m.

Wilbur was a Warren County native and was born July 4, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilburn and Exie Milam Garrett; a brother, Harold Garrett; and two sisters, Mary Souders and Brenda Garrett.

Wilbur was retired from Union Underwear Co. and Key Oil Co. He was a member of Old Union Missionary Baptist Church. He was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and loved the Cincinnati Reds. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he never met a stranger.

Wilbur is survived by his wife of 58 years, Katherine Marie Garrett; two daughters, Sheila Dunn of Bowling Green and Sharon Snell (Jimmy) of Morgantown; four sisters, Betty Lee of Caverna, Georgia Hudson and Paula Garrett of Bowling Green and Lavonne Woodward of Glasgow; five brothers, Johnny Garrett (Mary Jane), Larry Garrett (Becky), William Garrett (Linda), David Garrett (Glenda) and Tommy Garrett (Carolyn), all of Bowling Green; five grandchildren, Freddy Dunn (Mandy), Melissa White, Adam Dunn, Taylor Alder (Brett) and Amanda Dunn; and two great-grandchildren, Trey Dunn and Sydney Alder. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at J.C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. Monday until time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Old Union Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
