Walter Ray Cox
Walter Ray Cox, age 77 of Morgantown, KY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky in Bowling Green, KY. Born on Saturday, February 7, 1948, in Butler County, Kentucky, Walter's life was a testament to his enduring strength, wisdom, and the love he shared with those around him.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Clara Cox, his brothers Oscar, Frank, J.C., and Joe Cox, and his sisters Mary Elliott and Dorothy Stible. His legacy continues through his loving family, including his daughter Tracie Cox Muth (John) and son Joseph Cox, both of Morgantown, KY; his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy; his sister Shirley Blanton of Morgantown, KY; his special nephew Tim Blanton (Cynthia), and several other nieces and nephews.
A man of faith, Walter attended New Gasper Baptist Church, and he served as a Baptist preacher for several years. Walter was also a proud and dedicated farmer, a vocation that allowed him to work the land he loved so dearly.
Walter's interests were a reflection of his life's work. He found great pleasure in attending tractor shows, where he connected with fellow enthusiasts and shared stories of his experiences. His hands were rarely still, as he enjoyed working on tractors, a skill that showcased his handy and creative nature. Walter's love for his cattle was well-known, and he took great pride in caring for them. His cat Buddy was a constant companion.
Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:00am with Bro. Woody Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery where Tony Cox, Joseph Cox, Tim Blanton, Lance Chapman, John Muth and Tim Fishburn will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 2, 2025 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm and Tuesday 9:00am until funeral time at 11:00am at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
