Vonnie Flener Thomason

Vonnie Flener Thomason entered eternal life on Friday, September 11th.  She passed peacefully in the Vanderbilt University Medical Center ICU surrounded by family and friends.   

 Originally from Morgantown, KY, Vonnie was a 1975 graduate of Butler County High School.  She managed a local drug store in Morgantown for many years but followed her husband’s career, moving with their daughter first to Russellville, KY and eventually to Old Hickory, TN.  Along the way she completed two degrees from Western Kentucky University: an Associates in 2000 and a Bachelors (Suma Cum Laude) in 2002. She was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  She served Sacred Heart Parish in Russellville, KY for 15 years as their Administrator. 

 Vonnie was a fierce friend, wife, and mother.  She was loving to those she cared for, and formidable in protecting those she loved. She had great friendships, both life-long and recent. She and her husband were life partners for 45 years.

 Vonnie is survived by her husband Jim Thomason, daughter Rachel Thomason, brother Dean (Natasha) Flener, mother Marjorie Flener, niece Lyra Flener, nephew Cole Flener, cousins Dale (Stephanie) and Charlie Shields, Brother-in-Law Don (Kathy) Thomason, and one aunt Opal Shields.  Visitation will be at Hermitage Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, September 15th from 4 – 7 pm. There will be a Funeral Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Donelson on Wednesday, September 16th at 11 am.
