Verner D. Cook

Verner D. Cook, 95, of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Morgantown Care & Rehab. Verner was born on Wednesday, December 14, 1921, in Butler County, Kentucky to the late Clyde R. and Meedy O. Proctor Cook and was husband of the late Thelma Maudrie Staples Cook. He was a member of Morgantown First Baptist Church and a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II and Korea. He retired during the Vietnam War after 23 1/2 years of service receiving the Bronze Star during World War II from General George S. Patton. He was also a member of Cassia Lodge #272, Gideons International - Butler/Edmonson camp, was a Kentucky Colonel, a former member of Morgantown Volunteer Fire Dept., and loved to volunteer at the Morgantown Mission. Other than his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one son in- law, Danny Taylor; one brother - Andy Cook; and one sister - Kathryn Allsup.
Verner D. Cook is survived by two daughters Sharon Taylor of Banock, KY., and Phyllis Tate (Fred) of Quality, KY.; one sister Evelyn Erue of Aurora, Illinois; three grandchildren Amanda Johnson (Josh) of Spring Hill, TN, Robert Taylor (Amanda) Banock, KY., and Emily Romans (Michael) of Bowling Green, KY.; seven great-grandchildren - Isaiah and Eli Johnson; Harmony, Dexter and Arbor Taylor; and Jonas and Willow Romans; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services for Verner D. Cook will be held at the Morgantown First Baptist Church Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. with Bro. Greg Wallace officiating.

Burial will be in the Hill Haven Memory Gardens where full military rites will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 2, 2017, from 1:00 p.m, - 8:00 p.m. with Masonic Rites conducted by Cassia Lodge #272 at 6:00 p.m. at the Jones Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until funeral time at 12:00 p.m. at the Morgantown First Baptist Church.
