Thomas Ray Phelps

Thomas Ray Phelps, age 75  of Rockvale, Ky died at his residence on Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was born in Aberdeen, KY on October 16, 1936, the son of the late Roy Lee and Florence Belle Whitaker Phelps. Tom was a very active member of Macedonia Baptist Church, a Sunday school teacher for over 45 years and involved with several church mission trips. He was an Army veteran, serving 3 years of active duty and 7 years in the reserves.

Tom retired as 4-H and County Extension Agent for Breckinridge County after many years of service. During this time, he assisted farmers with crop production, was known for growing greenhouse tomatoes from natural gas wells and was the most knowledgable plant pathologist in Breckinridge County. "Mr. 4-H" as he was affectionately known to the school children, worked very hard with the youth of Breckinridge County to keep the 4-H program active.

He was a former member of the Farm Bureau Board and Soil Conservation Board.

After retiring, he spent time farming, fishing and camping, but his most enjoyable time was spent with his family.

Barry Corder and his wife Carolyn of Franklin, KY

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 2:30PM at Aberdeen Baptist Church with Rev. Corey Cochran, Rev. Wendell Sandefur and Rev. Roger Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Saturday, 3:30 - 8:00PM and at the church on Sunday after 1PM.

dear treva dean, so sorry to read about your brother. dont know if you remember me or not. i am velma deen martin,daughter of the late virgle & georgia martin,you & i used to chum around some when we lived down.we went to land school.god be with you.velma martin owens.
