Roy E. Ragland

Roy E. Ragland, 87, of Bowling Green passed away May 25, 2015, at the Hospice House. The Butler County native was a graduate of South Warren High School and Eastern Kentucky University. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from the Kentucky State Police after a thirty-two year career. Starting as a trooper, he later served as post commander of the Lebanon barracks and assistant post commander in Bowling Green. He was a faithful member of Greenwood Park Church of Christ where he formerly served as a deacon and an elder. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Estelene Baker and Everett E. Ragland; brothers, Drexil and George Ragland; and a grandson, Alex Johnson.
A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sammy Ragland; daughters, Judy Johnson (Lee), Rebecca Merideth (Ronnie), Elizabeth Westbrook (John); a son, John Ragland; six grandchildren, Lauren Russell (Tommy), Hollye and Kaitlin Westbrook, Kevin Merideth, Karen Grice (Ryan), Cayce Johnson; and a great-granddaughter, Scotlyn Russell.
Funeral is at 2:00 pm on Friday, May 29, at Johnson Vaughn Phelps Funeral Home with burial in the Coley Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, May 28 and from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday, May 29 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Southern Kentucky or any charity of your choice.
