Robert Oneal Basham

Robert Oneal Basham, known affectionately as Oneal to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024, at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. Born on April 20, 1947, in Bowling Green, KY. Oneal's life was a testament to his enduring spirit and his commitment to his community.

Oneal was a beloved husband to Mary Lynn Basham, with whom he shared a loving marriage since January 4, 1991. Together, they built a life in Roundhill, KY, filled with laughter, love, and the joy of family. Oneal was a devoted father to his children, Timmy Basham (Angie) of Roundhill, KY, Angie Gipson (Brent) of Bowling Green, KY, Christy Basham of Bowling Green, KY, Jennifer Kelton of Roundhill, KY, and Mitchell Basham (Misty) of Roundhill, KY. He was a cherished grandfather to eight grandchildren: Dakota Basham (Allie)of Roundhill, KY, Laura McGranahan (Tony) of Roundhill, KY, Lindsey Steenbergen (Willy), Glasgow, KY, Emma and Kara Gipson, Bowling  Green, KY, Trevor Spradlin of Cave City, KY, and Caden and McKinley Basham of Roundhill, KY. His legacy continued to grow with four great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Oneal was the brother of Shirley Alexander of Windyville, KY, and an uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert O. and Dorothy Hayes Basham, his sister Joy Lee Basham, and brother-in-law Billy Alexander.

Oneal's work ethic was evident throughout his career. He served as a supervisor at Josco Construction and was responsible for maintaining the grounds at various State Parks, including Nolin, Rough, Barren, and Green River Lake. His dedication to his country was exemplified by his service in the United States Army, and he was a proud member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 5837 in Morgantown, KY. A man of faith, Oneal attended Mt Pleasant Church of Christ. He was actively involved in his community as a member of Reedyville Rural Development, a past Ambulance Board Member, and the owner and operator of Green River Kennels and Rabbit Pens. There, he and his family hosted several trade days, bringing together people from all walks of life. Oneal's interests were a reflection of his love for the outdoors and his entrepreneurial spirit. He enjoyed running his rabbit dogs, hunting, farming, and raising Longhorn cattle. His presence was a familiar one at United Producers Stockyard, where he relished in socializing with fellow farmers and friends.

Those who knew Oneal would describe him as loving, funny, and friendly. His sense of humor and warm demeanor made him a cherished figure in his community. Oneal's ability to make others feel at ease was one of his most endearing qualities, and his laughter was contagious.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Saturday, May 11, 2024 at 1:00pm with Bro. Tom Hall officiating. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Cemetery where military rites will be observed by the Ohio County AM VETS and serving as pallbearers are Caden Basham, Tommy Basham, Jr., Dakota Basham, Michael Alexander Trevor Spadlin and Robbie Alenxander. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 9:30 am until funeral time at 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
