ROBERT C. “BOBBY” GREEN

ROBERT C. “BOBBY” GREEN, 85 of Morgantown, Kentucky passed away Thursday January 16, 2020 at his residence. Bobby was born on January 8, 1935 in Beech Creek, Kentucky located in Muhlenburg County to the parents of Glendon Paul “Jack” and Alma Pendley Green as the 6th child of a family of ten children.

Bobby was married to his high school sweetheart Monica “Mickey” Waddle for 40 years. They had one son James Robert Green. Mickey passed away in 1995 from cancer and Bobby then married Thelma Denham Green for 16 years before she passed away in 2014.

As a 1954 graduate of Butler Co. High School where he had been Butler Co. High Schools first all-state basketball player, Bobby enrolled in the United States Air Force and served 4 years as an Air Traffic Controller during the Cold War of the 1950’s. His military assignments included Keesler Air Force base in Mississippi in 1954-55 and Whiteman Air Force base in Missouri from 1955-58. During his tenure in the Air Force, Bobby played Baseball and Fast Pitch Softball for his military teams.
As his military career ended in 1958, Bobby enrolled in Western Kentucky University where he received his B.S. Degree in 1961 and Masters in 1972. As an educator and teacher in the Butler County School System for 28 years he served as an Assistant Coach in Basketball, Head Coach in Baseball, and Head Coach in Football. He was involved in community youth sports and served as Little League and Pony League President for 8 years during the 1960’s.

Bobby was an active member of the Morgantown United Methodist Church for many years. He served in many different leadership roles such as Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Board, President of Methodist Men’s Club, President of the Bowling Green District Men’s Club and member of the Louisville Methodist Bishop’s council. During his later life he was a participant in the United Baptist Church of Edmonson County for 12 years.

Other than his parents and wives he is preceded in death by, seven siblings Glen Green, Wilma Beck, Bill Green, Dorene Roberts, Sue Scarbrough, Harold Lloyd Green and Larry Steven Green. He has two remaining siblings alive Sherry West and Brenda Klein. He is survived by his son James Robert “Jim” and his wife Fammie Green. He had three grandchildren Jaclyn Green, Juleah Green Johnson and husband Donnie, and Jordan Green. One great grandchild Vivianne James Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Sunday January 19, 2020 at 2:00pm with Bro. Halqua Wilson officiating. Burial will be held in the Hill Haven Memory Garden. Visitation will be held on Saturday January 18, 2019 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm and Sunday 9:00am until funeral time at 2:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
