Richard Gerald Maxfield

Richard Gerald Maxfield, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, in Morgantown, Kentucky. Born on March 19, 1941, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, Richard's life was a testament to the values of hard work, family, and humor.

Richard's journey began as the son of James R. and Etta Esthline Cottrell Maxfield. He grew up alongside his four brothers, Roger, Randall, Donald, and James Robert Maxfield, all of whom preceded him in death.

In his youth, Richard met and married the love of his life, Patricia Sue Vaughn Maxfield, who passed before him. Together, they raised two daughters, Dana Maxfield of Rochester, KY, and Pam Maxfield Burden (Timmy) of Central City, KY. His role as a father was one he cherished deeply. Richard's legacy continued to grow with the birth of his four grandchildren, Jacob Burden of Central City, KY, Whitney Simbro (Eric) of Central City, KY, Sara Burden of Island, KY, and Justin Burden of Central City, KY. He was also blessed with four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kylie Simbro and River and Wrnley Hales, who brought him immense joy and pride.

After the passing of his wife, Richard found companionship and happiness with Glenda Maxfield of Morgantown, KY.

He was a proud member of the United Mine Workers and dedicated many years to working in the coal mines. His commitment to his work extended to several construction companies. Beyond his professional life, Richard had a passion for woodworking and writing poetry. His hands were skilled at crafting beautiful pieces. Above all, Richard's greatest joy was spending time with his family.
