Ransom Victor Gibbs

Ransom Victor Gibbs of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed from this life into the presence of Jesus at his home on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the age of 92.  Born on May 21, 1922 in Arnold, Nebraska to the late Ralph Irving Gibbs and Pearl (Bakewell) Gibbs, he spent his boyhood on the family farm near Stapleton, Nebraska, the youngest of six siblings.  While attending Bible School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was drafted into the army and honorably served in the Pacific theater as a Technician, Fifth Grade and as the chaplain's assistant during World War II on the islands of New Guinea and the Philippines in the 104th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.
Following the end of World War II, he married Vera Juanita (Bolender) Gibbs.  They began their wedded life in Pasadena, California and later moved to Kentucky.  He received two Bachelor degrees, one in Arts in Religion from Pasadena College (now Point Loma Nazarene University), the second degree in Arts in Elementary Education from Morehead State University and his Master of Arts in Education from Western Kentucky University.  The father of four sons, he is held in high esteem as a man who loved God with all his heart, soul, mind, and strength, and loved his neighbor as himself.
He spent his life as a minister in the Wesleyan Church, serving in both California and Kentucky.  His heart to serve the poor and bring them life transformation through the gospel of Christ required that he support himself, and he served many years as an elementary teacher, touching hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Vera Juanita (Bolender) Gibbs, and later his wife Laura (Fleming) Gibbs; brother Ralph Gibbs and wife Emaline; sister Rachel (Gibbs) Stockman and husband Milton Stockman; brother Roland Gibbs and wife Doris; brother Russell Gibbs and wife Matilda; sister Rosie (Gibbs) Robinson and husband Glenn Robinson.
He is survived by four children; son Warren Gibbs and wife Rebecca (Putt) Gibbs of Claremont, North Carolina; son Clayton Gibbs and wife Sherlene (West) Gibbs of McKinney, Texas; son Byron Gibbs and wife Treva (Watkins) Gibbs of Ector, Texas; son Herbert Gibbs and wife Rebecca (Mercer) Gibbs of Philpot, Kentucky; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
