Pete "PJ" Dockery

Pete “PJ” Dockery, age 41, of Morgantown, Kentucky, passed away on June 5, 2026, at Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

PJ was born on November 24, 1984, in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and he spent his life rooted in the community and the people he loved. He was a graduate of Butler County High School and attended Brooklyn Baptist Church. Those who knew him will remember a man whose life was marked by devotion, kindness, and a genuine love for others. He was loving, generous, and thoughtful, and he carried those qualities into every part of his life.

Above all else, PJ was a very loving and devoted father to his three children, Kooper Dockery of Morgantown, Kentucky, Kya Dockery of Leitchfield, Kentucky, and Kippton Dockery of Leitchfield, Kentucky. He always put the needs and wants of his children before his own, even when he was tired and worn out from coming home from dialysis. If he received a call saying one of his children did not feel well, he was always ready to put their needs first. His children were the center of his world, and his love for them was steady, selfless, and unmistakable.

PJ was preceded in death by his father, Bamis “Pete” Dockery. He is survived by his mother, LaDonna Dockery of Morgantown, Kentucky. He also leaves behind his siblings, Jon Dockery and his wife Tara, and Marcus Dockery, both of Morgantown, Kentucky. He is further survived by his brothers, Scotty Simmons and his wife Jane of Morgantown, Kentucky, Robert Filback and his wife Makayla, of Morgantown, KY and Jake Wilcher and his wife Brittany, of Caneyville, Kentucky. He also leaves one niece, Makayla Dorris and her husband Trenton of Morgantown, Kentucky, and one nephew, Jacob Dockery and his wife Ella of Morgantown, Kentucky.

PJ had a deep love for football, and it was his first love from an early age. He also grew up as a race track brat and caught the racing fever, a passion that stayed with him throughout his life. He enjoyed the excitement, the stories, and the people that came with that world, and he had a way of making those around him smile. PJ was a showboat in the best sense of the word, and he loved seeing everyone laugh and enjoy themselves. He was someone who truly enjoyed life and brought energy and warmth wherever he went.

In the days before his passing, PJ remained focused on the things that mattered most to him. He told Kooper the night before he passed that he did not know if he would feel like going to the races on Saturday night, but he was going to church on Sunday morning. That simple statement reflected the heart of who he was, a man who valued family, faith, and the joy of being present for the people and places he loved.
