Ona Belle "Tootsie" Mitchell

Ona Bell “Tootsie” Mitchell, age 96, of Quality, Ky. passed away at her residence on Tuesday, March 22, 2022.  She was born on April 19, 1925 in Muhlenburg Co., Ky. to the late John and Erdean Staples Abbott.  Ona was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.  She retired from Kellwood Manufacturing.  She enjoyed reading her Bible, spending time with family, volunteering at the Morgantown Care and Rehabilitation Center and dancing at home.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Olis Mitchell and special friend Kenneth Wester; children Wanda Slaughter, Lanny Mitchell and Susy Slaughter; her sons-in-law Neal Kirby and Elvis Slaughter; her step-mother Euphy Harper Abbott; her sisters Reval Keown, Nancy Keown, Josephine Kolodziej, Beulah “Mick” Skipper Middleton, Justine “Cindy” Dukes, Evadeen Abbott and her brothers Vernon Abbott, Chester “Check” Abbott, John T. Abbott and Ardell Abbott; and her grandchildren Terry Slaughter and Bryan Slaughter; great great granddaughter Alyssa Gaddie.

Ona Bell “Tootsie” Abbott Mitchell is survived by her children Betty Kirby and Danny (Shirley) Mitchell; son-in-law Thurman Slaughter; her brother Arliss “Ben” Abbott; grandchildren Betsy Sharpe, Scotty Crawford, Tina Allen, Tonya Martin, Gary Slaughter, Eric Brown, Monty Mitchell, Joey Mitchell, Bill Gamble, Laura Ratliff, David Neal Kirby, Rae Anna Kirby and Roger Barks; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Mar. 25, 2022 at 2pm at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Jimmy McIntosh officiating.  Burial will be held in the Sandy Creek Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday from 11am until time of service at Smith Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sandy Creek Cemetery, Oak Grove Cemetery or Pleasant Grove Church.
