Morris Frederick

Morris Frederick, age 90, was born in Earlington, KY on February 9, 1926 and passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in Clarksville, TN.  He was the son of the late Sam Frederick and Seva Cartwright Frederick.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, of 36 years, Deloris Frederick, of Stockton, CA; his second wife, of 15 years, Juanita Sharp Frederick, of Madisonville, KY; his step-grandsons, Bryan Dilley, of Stockton, CA and Ruben DelaCerda, of Duncanville, TX;his nephew, Jimmy and his brothers, William who was lost in WWII at the age of 20, and James, who passed at the age of 3.

Morris proudly served 24 years in the U.S. Navy, during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, before retiring with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.

He loved playing his guitar and his children have fond memories of him sitting on the bed strummin’.  Over the years he played with several small combos at various clubs.  He was very active and was part of a couple of small bands - Country Jubilee Band and Eagle Kine - that toured in Kentucky.  Both of these groups produced records which are treasured by his family.

Morris is survived by 5 children:  Harold (Betz) Frederick of Tempe, AZ; Dawn (Don) Dilley of Little River, SC, Bonnie Frederick of Clarksville, TN; Miles (Virginia) Frederick of Roseville, CA and Trish Frederick of Folsom, CA; 6 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is his sister, Opal Arnold and nephews Lloyd, Harold and Doug Arnold, all of Madisonville, KY.

The family would like to thank Oak Ridge Senior Living, Madisonville, KY and Fieldstone Place, Clarksville, for the care they provided during the time he was a resident, and Gateway Hospital for their kindness while caring for him during his final hours.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Jones Funeral Chapel, 927 W.G.L. Smith St., Morgantown, KY. 42261.  Services will be Wednesday, October 26 with a viewing from 12 pm - 1 pm. at the funeral chapel, followed by a graveside service and burial at 2 pm in Oak Grove Cemetery, Silver City, KY, with Dr. Maples officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Morris’ name to a veteran’s charity of your choice.
