Juanita Wingfield Neighbors

Juanita Wingfield Neighbors, 92, of Morgantown, Ky.  passed away on October 2, 2021 at her home.  She was born into a strong bloodline of Harrod women on March 12, 1929 in Woodbury, Kentucky to the late Gettie and Ada Mae Harrod Wingfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Earl Neighbors; stepdaughter, Patricia Ann Sheehan; sisters, Magalene Wingfield Huff (Walter); Katherine Wingfield Harper (R.L.); Charlotte Wingfield Ellis (Russell). Brothers: James Ivan Wingfield and un-named infant brother. Son-in-law, Jimmy Thompson. Daughter-in-law, Sue Huff. Great-great granddaughter, Eleanor Nell Riley and several precious nieces and nephews.

Juanita enjoyed working at Gertrude Vincent’s restaurant and later retired from Thomas Industries. She enjoyed sewing and crafts,  Christmas decorations and organ music.  She also enjoyed family genealogy and was the author of “The Wingfield Wings”. She was an exceptionally good cook and loved cooking for her family.  

Juanita is survived by her daughter, Brenda Neighbors Thompson;  her son, Edward L. “Eddie” Neighbors, both of Morgantown; and stepdaughter, Martha Neighbors Blackstone (Michael) of Crystal River, Florida.

She is known as Nannie to her surviving grandchildren: Teresa Thompson Woodcock (Greg),  Jim Thompson (Sarah),  Denise Neighbors Holder (Ron), Kathy Neighbors Gunderson (Andy), Jael Brittany Cole and J.T. Bowling. 

Great grandchildren: Cory Thompson, Courtney Riley, Zeke Woodcock, Jacob and Emily Holder,  Austin, Tyler and Halley Gunderson, and Madyson Blackstone. Great-great grandchildren: Lincoln and Monroe Riley.  

Juanita’s special kindred spirit was Tammy Young. Caregivers are special people and Juanita’s family greatly appreciates her caregivers, Tammy, Reda, Betty, Shirley and Gist.

A private graveside service will be held with Bro. Raleigh Blancett officiating.
