Janice Carol Tomes Whitaker, 66 of Gilstrap, Ky. passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at her residence.

She was a Muhlenberg County native, born October 24, 1944 daughter of the late Doff and Aileen Flener Tomes. Janice had a Masters Degree in Elementary Education and a Bachelors Degree in Home Economics. She was also a Member of the Central City Church of Christ. Preceded in death by one brother Jerry Tomes.
Janice Carol Tomes Whitaker is survived by her best friend and husband for 42 years Darrel C. Whitaker of Gilstrap, Ky.;  two daughters Lora Russell and husband Greg of Dawson Springs, Ky and Darla Daugherty and husband Ryan  of Dexterville, Ky.; 6 most loved grandchildren Makayla Martin age 10, Emilee Martin age 8, Delaney Daugherty age 6, Aiden Daugherty age 1, Tylor Russell age 7 and Zack Russell age 16; 4 sisters Pamela Green of Paris Tenn., Marsha Simpson of Belton, Ky, Sandra Fuller of Central City, Ky and Denise Dill of Lillian Alabama; brother Pete Tomes of Livermore, Ky. and brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, aunt, uncles, cousins, close friends and most special Laverne Tarrance and Gilman Flener.
Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Saturday,  September 24, 2011 at 1:00pm with Bro. Darrell Puryear and Bro. Bob Edlin officiating. Burial will be in the Mt Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday,  September 23, 2011 from 3:00pm – 8:00pm and Saturday from 9:00am til funeral time at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
