James Ray Johnson, age 76 of Morgantown, KY passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at the Medical Center in Bowling Green, KY. James was born on Sunday, July 21, 1946 in Butler County, KY to the union of the late Roy L. and Loretha Harris Johnson. He was a member of Richland Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Lee Brick and Block. James enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with his family. Other than his parents he is preceded in death by one daughter Teresa Johnson Wells; two brothers Perry and Kenny Johnson; father in law Alton Pendley; brother in law Wilbur Pendley and two sister in laws Lucy and Sudie Pendley.

James Ray Johnson is survived by his wife of 59 years Linda Pendley Johnson of Morgantown, KY; one daughter Tammie Johnson Cardwell (Ronnie) of Morgantown, KY; four grandchildren Nicholas Johnson of Morgantown, KY, Kenneth Lee Johnson (Katelynn) of Bowling Green, KY, Laurie Ann Flemming (Brandon) of Alabama, Sara Jeanine Smith (Ash) of Franklin, KY; five great grandchildren; four sisters Retha Lee of Benson, NC, Idianah Cummings of Springhill, TN, Lavette Johnson of Morgantown, KY and Ella Hunt of Morgantown, KY; two brothers Marlin Johnson (Sandy) of Bloomington Indiana and Terry Johnson (Faye) of Benson, NC; mother in law Ruby Pendley of Morgantown, KY and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 12:00pm with Bro. Jim McDaniel officiating. Burial will be in the Dan Johnson Cemetery where Nick Johnson, Roger Gill, Byron Pendley, Kenneth Johnson, Ronnie Cardwell and Jeffrey Pendley will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm and Saturday 8:00 am until funeral time at 12:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
