James Griffith Hines

James Griffith Hines 88, of Bowling Green, KY died at his home on Sunday September 8, 2013. He was born in Morgantown, KY and was the son of the late James Richard Hines and Clarice Griffith Crow of Morgantown, KY.

Jimmy Hines is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mae Etta Cohron Hines of Bowling Green, KY.  One daughter, Donna Hines Furlong, Bowling Green, KY; two grandchildren, Jennifer Furlong DelPozo (Andrey) Urbana, IL, Kent E. Furlong (Jenna), Bowling Green, KY; brother, Warren W. Hines, Destin, FL; sisters, Pat Frederick, Bowling Green, KY and Sarah Troutman, Philpot, KY; sisters in law, Tempie Cohron, Bowling Green, KY and Patricia Smith (Ronald), Alma, AR; uncle, David H. Griffith, Bowling Green, KY and several nieces and nephews.

He was the founder and president of James R. Hines Corporation, James R. Hines Company, Hines, Inc. and at his death he was serving as a member of the board of directors of Hines Furlong Line.  Mr. Hines represented the 4th generation of his family in the river transportation business.

Mr. Hines also served as director and director emeritus of American National Bank.

He was a WWII veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Pacific theatre, a member and deacon of The Presbyterian Church, Bowling Green Masonic Lodge 73 F&AM, Bowling Green Noon Lions Club, member of the board of trustees of the Ogden Foundation, Petroleum Club of Louisville, Kentucky, Propeller Club, and member of the American Waterways Operators. He was a proud supporter of Western Kentucky University basketball and a season ticket holder for 65 years.

Visitation will be held 4:30 P. M. to 7:30 P. M. Wednesday at J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel, and 1:00 P. M. to 2:00 P. M. Thursday, at The Presbyterian Church. Funeral service will be at 2:00 P. M. Thursday at The Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the College Heights Foundation at Western Kentucky University, 1906 College Heights Blvd #41016, Bowling Green, KY 42101-1016. Arrangements are entrusted to the J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
