James Darrel Felty was surrounded by his family on January 28 as he passed away peacefully at The Medical Center of Bowling Green following a short battle with lung cancer. He was 70.

Darrel, known to many friends as “Frog,” was a respected explosives engineer who worked in mines, on road construction jobs, quarries and other projects across Kentucky during his career of more than 40 years. For 10 years, he worked on the expansion of I-65 from the Tennessee line to Elizabethtown.

Born August 3, 1952, to the late Gracie Lorene Embry and Chelsie Felty, Darrel grew up in Brooklyn, Kentucky, and lived his life within a few miles of their home. He was an outdoorsman, fisherman and a prolific gardener, growing and canning fruits and vegetables, always tending to a flock of chickens and training hunting dogs.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Deloris Felty; daughter, Dana Felty Bynum (Russ); stepdaughter, Donna Smith Young (Brad); grandchildren, Carter and Calvin Bynum and Paige and Slayton DeArmond; sisters, Shelia Ryle (Bill) and Anita Phelps; brother, Dion Felty; three great-grandchildren and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 12:00pm with Bro. Lawson Embry officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Union Cemetery where Dudley Childress, Raven Felty, Mack Embry, Chris Givens, Terrell House and Jimmy Renfrow will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 4:00pm - 7:00pm and Wednesday 8:00am until funeral time at 12:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to Butler County Cancer Assistance P.O. Box 98 Aberdeen, KY 42201.
