James Aubrey West
James Aubrey West, affectionately known as Aurb to his friends and family, passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 89. He left this world peacefully at his residence in Morgantown, Kentucky, leaving behind a legacy of love, humor, and wisdom. Aubrey was born on July 10, 1936, in Butler County, Kentucky, to the late Wyatt and Roda Burden West.
In his life, Aubrey was a pillar of strength and joy for his family. He is survived by his adoring children: Cassie West of Morgantown, KY, Donald West (Kim) of Louisville, KY, and Dana West (Louie) of Louisville, KY. Aubrey was a cherished grandfather to five grandchildren who will carry forward his stories and laughter. He will also be deeply missed by his best buddy, Matt Hunt, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Aubrey was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alma Brooks West, his two sons, Terry and Dean West, and his eight siblings.
Aubrey retired as a maintenance foreman from Brown and Williamson in Louisville, KY where he was well respected for his commitment and hard work. His colleagues remember him as a man who brought both wisdom and humor to every situation.
A man of diverse interests, he was known for his passion for story-telling, a hobby that endeared him to both young and old. Aubrey possessed a keen interest in politics, providing thoughtful and often spirited discourse on the matters of the day. When it came to entertainment, there was nothing he loved more than settling down to watch an old western, reliving the tales of the wild frontier.
People who knew Aubrey would describe him as the kind of person who never met a stranger. He approached life with a friendly demeanor that instantly put others at ease. His sheer presence could light up a room and his wise words often provided comfort and guidance to those around him.
