Imogene Peveler Grayson, a beacon of love and support in her family and community, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2025, at Morgantown Care & Rehab at the age of 89. Born on Thursday, March 28, 1935, in Russellville, Kentucky, Imogene's life was a testament to her loving, thoughtful, and faith-filled nature.
Imogene spent her formative years in Russellville, where she graduated from Russellville High School in 1953. In 1954, she married the love of her life, Kermit Wayne Grayson, of Huntsville, Kentucky. Together, they embarked on a journey that would see them through joys and sorrows, including the loss of their infant son, Dan Grayson.
Imogene's work ethic was evident in her tenure at Texas Gas in Owensboro, KY, before supporting her husband Wayne as he entered the Air Force in 1956. Throughout Wayne's military service and subsequent career with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Imogene was the cornerstone of their home, providing unwavering support and dedication to the mission Wayne committed to serve. Her presence was a constant source of strength and encouragement, and it was widely acknowledged that Wayne's professional accolades were a shared triumph with his devoted wife.
After Wayne's retirement from the FAA, Imogene and her husband returned to Butler County, where they built their dream retirement home on their cherished farm. There, Imogene continued to be an active member of the Huntsville Baptist Church.
Imogene's love for crossword puzzles and family picture albums was only surpassed by the joy she found in spending time with her family. She was a cherished figure in the lives of her two granddaughters, Amelia and Abigail.
Imogene's legacy is carried on by her loving family. She is survived by her two sons, Stephen Grayson of Huntsville, KY, and James Grayson (Kelly) of Collierville, TN; her granddaughters, Amelia Grayson (Joe) of Baltimore and Abigail Grayson of Houston, TX; her brother, Tommy Peveler of Port Orange, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Bonnie Varble Peveler, her beloved husband, Kermit Wayne Grayson and her infant son Dan Grayson, Imogene's spirit is now reunited with those she loved and lost too soon.
