Hugh Carroll Evans

Hugh Carroll Evans of Morgantown, Kentucky passed away on his 86th birthday, Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Hospice of Southern Kentucky. Hugh Carroll was born March 5, 1937, to the late Royce “Chick” Evans and Arrah “Wanna” Evans. He lived a full life. Hugh grew up with his parents and siblings, Linda and RC, in Provo, Kentucky. He loved sports, and played basketball in high school, baseball and softball in Provo, and his favorite sport, golf, every chance he got. Hugh was married to Mary Talmage “Toppie” Evans from May 18, 1958, until her death in 2012. They raised five children together-Linda Carol, Lisa Anne, Robert Wayne “Bobby”, William Gregory “Greg”, and Shannon Kay. Hugh was blessed to find love again after Toppie’s passing, and married Anne Scott January 3, 2014. Hugh was a member of Monticello Baptist Church before he joined Salem Baptist Church in 1977. He was a Deacon at Salem for many years, as well as a member of the Gideons. He worked until he retired as a machinist at Paradise for the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he also served as a union steward. Hugh was a proud leader of the Democratic party in Butler County. Upon his retirement from TVA, Hugh was elected as Butler County Judge Executive, where he served for six years. He was always amenable to talk politics or watch a UK basketball game. He loved his community, as demonstrated by the number of people who called him “friend.” He was a personification of the power of God’s redeeming love.  Hugh was preceded in death by his parents, Royce “Chick” Evans and Arrah “Wanna” Evans, wife Mary Talmage “Toppie” Evans, son Robert Wayne “Bobby” Evans, and brother-in-law Robert “Bobby” Deweese.
