Helen was a very intelligent person when it came to quilts and handwork. She will always be remembered in my heart for her beautiful quilts and I am so proud to have one that she quilted along with my 3 children and my mother.
I was visiting my brother's and parent's grave sites in the Union Cemetery in January 2012 and a new grave near their graves was there. I was stunned to find Helen had passed away. I live out of state and stunned is the most appropriate word I can use. Helen was a wonderful person, a distant relative of mine and I had great respect for her parents Reno and Lena Brown. My mother, Exil Givens McCoy, often corresponded with Helen and I know mother had Helen quilt many quilts. My mother would piece quilt tops during the winter months and began having Helen hand quilt quilts for our family. Helen was an artist with a needle, such great work. My mother was a quilter as well but up in age she could not handle the work, Helen was always willing to help and I appreciate her so much for doing that for mom. I often went to the farm with mother to visit. What a wonderful family. I want to express my deepest heartfelt sympathy to Gerald and family for you loss. May God bring smiles to your faces when you think of her.
