Helen Reid Smith

Helen Reid Smith, age 96 of Morgantown, KY passed away Saturday, June 11, 2022 at the Morgantown Care & Rehab. Helen was born on Sunday, October 4, 1925 in Butler County, KY to the late Robert Gidcumb and Nettie Ayers Jones and wife of the late Dewey Lee Smith Sr. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a Butler County High School Graduate. Helen was the book keeper for the family businesses and loved spending time with her family. She was a talented artist and loved to paint. She enjoyed reading, working in the garden and doing seamstress work. Other than her parent and husband she is preceded in death by her step father Stanley Jones; one brother Robert Elon Gidcumb; one sister Emma Jean Gidcumb Matthis; one granddaughter Jerrianna Muth Lauyans and one great great granddaughter Kenzleigh Rae Dockey.

Helen Reid Smith is survived by six children LoRei Smith Deweese (Danny) of Morgantown, KY; Dora "Gaylene" Smith Johnson (Laymon) of Morgantown, KY, Joanna Smith Embry (Bobby) of Hodgenville, KY, Jerelyn Smith Young (Jon) of Morgantown, KY, Dewey "Lee" Smith Jr. (Marissa) of Morgantown, KY and Margina Smith Russell (Benn) of Florence; foster son Wayne Ashley (Wilanna) of San Antonio, Texas; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and nieces and nephews; Special caretakers Margaret Phelps, Marty Brown, Kathleen Brooks and Michelle Franzell.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints in Morgantown with Speakers B.C. Childress and Robert Tuck officiating. Burial will be in the Dan Johnson Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, June 20, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Jones Funeral Chapel and Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
