Hazel Barbee Newman

Hazel Barbee Newman, age 101 of Panama City, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Community Health and Rehab Center in Panama City, FL. Hazel was born on Wednesday, December 29, 1920 in Rochester, KY to the union of the late Daniel Thomas and Clara Brown Barbee and wife of the late James O'Neal Newman. After graduating from Rochester High School, she attended Business School and worked as a Administrative Secretary in Louisville, KY. Hazel was very active in the First Christian Church in Louisville, KY and served as a volunteer in many of their ministries. Her favorite ministry was playing Mrs. Santa Claus at the local hospital and nursing homes. Hazel was a member of the Red Hat Society, loved music and traveling and was an avid Louisville Cardinal fan. Other than her parents and husband she is preceded in death by two sisters Esther Smith and Glenda Mercer and one nephew Dannie Glenn Smtih. She was a devoted and loving Wife, Mother, Sister and Aunt. 

Hazel Barbee Newman is survived by two sons David and Hal Newman; one sister Marilyn Pendley Pauls; three nieces Vicki Stovall, Leslie Tally and Kay Howard and three nephews Tom Mercer, Stan Pendley and Tim Mercer. 

Graveside services and burial will be held at the Rochester Cemetery on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 11:00am with Stan Pendley officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rochester Cemetery Fund c/o Ellen Poole 137 College Street Rochester, KY 42273.
