Hayward Allen

 

Hayward Allen, 88, of Morgantown, Ky., died peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Morgantown Care & Rehabilitation Center in Morgantown.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Violet (Coots) Allen, son Michael Allen (Terry), grandsons Travis Allen and Jacob Allen (Regina), and great-grandson Levi Allen all of Morgantown, Ky.; and son-in-law Gerald Howard, granddaughter Corey Ann (Howard) Jackson (Jim), and great-grandson Hunter Jackson all of Frankfort, Ky.; brother Harlan Allen (Wilma) of Shepherdsville, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Levi and Eulalia (LaMastus) Allen, brother Hugh Allen (Gustiva), sister Evalyn (Allen) Parr (Harold), sister Lucille (Allen) Raymer (Harry), daughter Barbara Ann (Allen)Howard.

 

Hayward graduated from Butler County High School in 1946.  His young family briefly moved to New Albany, In., before returning to Butler Co., Ky. where he was a farmer and co-owner of Allen’s Grocery.  He retired from Young’s Manufacturing in Beaver Dam.  He was a lifelong member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained a deacon in 1960.  He was the church’s bell ringer, led congregational singing, and often sang duet alongside wife Violet.  He also enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, UK basketball, and spending time with his beloved family.

 

 

Funeral services will be held the Mt Vernon Missionary Baptist Church Thursday September 7, 2017 at 12:00pm with Bro. Gerald Geary officiating. Burial will be in the Mt Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 6, 2017 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel and Thursday September 7, 2017 from 10:00am until funeral time at 12:00pm at Mt Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.
