Glenda Sue Givens Bowers

Glenda Sue Givens Bowers, 71 of Rochester, Kentucky, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, at her residence. She was a Butler County native, daughter of the late Juna E. and Letha Cartwright Givens and wife of the late James William Bowers. She was a member of the Rochester Missionary Baptist Church and retired from the Department of Transportation State of Kentucky. Glenda was preceded in death by one brother William Givens and one grandson Jarrod Bowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International P.O. Glenda Sue Givens Bowers is survived by 3 daughters; Melissa Stringer and husband Robert of Owensboro, Ky., Michele Brown and husband Tony of Clifty, Ky. and Melanie Spidle and husband Steve of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brother Harold Givens and wife Sybil of Quality, Ky.; mother in-law Rachal Bowers of Owensboro, Ky. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Thursday, February 9, 2012, at 1:00pm with Bro. Roger Heltsley officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, from 4:00pm – 8:00pm and Thursday, February 9, 2012, from 8:00am until funeral time at the Jones Funeral Chapel. Glenda was so sweet! I really enjoyed visiting with her and James after church in Rochester. We always had good times during our potlucks. I loved her cooking and if I ever bragged on something she made sure that I took the leftovers home with me.
Melissa, Michele, Melanie, and the rest of the family, I'm so sorry. God be with you and carry you through this time of sorrow.
