Gerald Maurice Lee
Gerald Maurice Lee, affectionately known as Maurice to his friends and family, departed this life on July 28, 2024, in Bowling Green, KY, after a lifetime filled with enduring love, unwavering faith, and a spirited enthusiasm for the simple joys of life. Born on December 23, 1932, in the rural heartland of Butler County, KY, Maurice's journey began with the same authenticity and dedication that would become the hallmarks of his remarkable 91 years.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Maurice served his country with honor before returning to his Kentucky roots to embark on a gratifying career as a skilled mechanic. His hands, weathered yet gentle, not only fixed machines but were also ever extended in friendship and support within his community. As a longtime member and deacon of Morgantown First Baptist Church, Maurice’s faith was a beacon that guided him and a comfort to all who knew him.
He is survived by a family who cherished him deeply: his daughter Alecia Lee (Tracey) of Bowling Green, KY; his son, Chadwick Lee (Trey Stevenson) of Phoenix, AZ; two granddaughters, Brianna and Shayla Lee, both of Bowling Green, KY and one brother, Doyle Lee of Morgantown, KY. His extended family includes sisters-in-law Bonnie Howard of Morgantown, KY, Loretta Elliot of Russellville, KY, Gwen Lee of Louisville, KY, and brother-in-law, Gordon Ledford, of Waco, TX as well as 15 nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews who will continue to honor his memory.
Gerald Maurice Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Elva Pearl Austin Lee, his parents, Jessie Howard and Dorothy Vaneda Brown Lee, and by his siblings Howard Lee, Thelton Lee, Thelma King, and Easter Ledford.
A Butler County High School graduate, Maurice embraced the simple joys in life. An avid fisherman, he believed in the peace found in nature’s embrace. His love for music and dancing were only surpassed by the love he had for spending time with his family. Maurice's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and the unshakeable strength of the human spirit carried with grace and humility. He will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him.
