Gary C. Ladewig

 Gary C. Ladewig, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Greenwood Nursing and Rehab in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Born on Saturday, April 4, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, he was a son to the late Clarance and Laverne Toops Ladewig and brother to Carol Aviotti, who preceded him in death.

Gary's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family and his country. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Betty Andrews Ladewig, whom he married on August 9, 1991. His legacy continues through his children, Kent Ladewig and Beth Lagana; his grandchildren, Addi Austin and Makayla Lagana; and his great-grandchildren, Evie and Levi Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Yonan, and several nieces and nephews.

A standout athlete, Gary was recognized as an All-American in Track and Field at Drake University in 1965. His commitment to excellence extended beyond his personal achievements as he later found joy in coaching cross country, inspiring young athletes to pursue their passions.

Gary honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Air Force, after his military service, he embarked on a successful career with Exxon Mobil, from which he retired after many years of dedicated service. Gary was a member of Aberdeen Missionary Baptist Church and his interests were as varied as they were passionate. Gary was an avid golfer, he enjoyed model cars and trains, Yet, above all, it was his family that brought him the greatest joy. He cherished every moment spent with them.

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 1:00pm with Bro. Roy Alford officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, where military rights will be presented by the Ohio County AM Vets. Serving as pallbearers Jack Andrews, Kevin Henderson, Caleb Beasley, Zach Asberry, Dan Hudnall and Trent Lee. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm and Saturday 8:00am until funeral time at 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
