Eugenio "Gene" Diaz Jr, age 83 of Morgantown, KY, passed away at his residence, on Thursday,  August 21, 2025. Born on Wednesday, October 15, 1941, in Uvalde, Texas, to Eugenio Sr. and Guadalupe Barrera Diaz, Gene's life was a testament to the values of love, humor, and selflessness.

Gene's journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to his family. He was a loving husband to his late wife, Delma Maria Rodriguez Diaz, whom he married on December 6, 1969, in Wauseon, Ohio. Together, they built a life filled with joy and laughter, a legacy continued by their children and grandchildren. Gene was also preceded in death by his daughter Diana Diaz Gilbert; granddaughter Elena (Ellie) Burns; son in law Jason Smith and several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his three daughters Delia Burns (Randy) of Morgantown, KY, Debbie Riley (Joseph) of Tucson, AZ, and Rebecca Smith of Morgantown, KY; one son Roberto Diaz (Sarah) of Welch Creek, WV; his grandchildren Ciarra Smith, Nicolas Riley, Sophia Burns, Lily Riley, Abigail Diaz, Isaac Smith, Gabriel Diaz, Gloria Burns, Ezekiel Diaz, and Emanuel Diaz; his sister Carmen Vela of Elkhart, IN; his brother Gilbert Diaz (Golda) of Rapid City, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Gene's professional life was as fulfilling as his personal one. After years of dedication and hard work, he retired as a restaurant owner. His was a member of Haven Heights Baptist Church in Wauseon, OH, until moving to Morgantown and becoming a member of Monticello Baptist Church .

Funeral services will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Tuesday, August 26, 2025 at 1:00pm with Bro. Randy Burns officiating. Burial will be in the Monticello Cemetery where his family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 from 10:00am until funeral time at 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel.
