Earl Flener

Earl Flener, 94, of Morgantown, Ky. passed away on Friday, April 17, 2020 at the Morgantown Care and Rehab Center.  He was born in the Flenerville Community in Butler Co., Ky. on May 5, 1925 to the late Blueford and Thenia Felty Flener.  He was a member of Aberdeen Missionary Baptist Church, a United States Navy Veteran where he was a Seaman 1st Class and an aircraft mechanic.  He received the WWII Victory Medal, the American Area Ribbon and the American Theatre Medal.  He retired from the Butler County Board of Education after 47 years, where he was a mechanic and then a bus driver.  He enjoyed farming, fishing, deer hunting, bird hunting and caring for his dog Jake.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dorothy Lorraine Coots Flener; sons Eddie Royce Flener and Timothy Earl Flener; brother Oval Flener.

Earl is survived by his son Rickey Lee Flener (Glenda) of Morgantown; grandchildren Mechelle West (John), April Renfrow (James), Holly Neighbors (Jeremy), Kurt Flener (Katie), Garet Flener (Lee Ann), Adam Flener (Kim) and Alisha Andrews (Matt); 14 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Leon Coots (Joyce), Christine Davis (Gerald), Gwen Lee, Jean Leake, Cammie Coots, Kay Dwyer (Buddy), John Coots (Sharon), Barbara Willoughby (Larry), Victor Coots (Joann), Marsha Flewallen (Ken) and several nieces and nephews. 

 Due to the directives concerning large gatherings, we are abiding by rules set forth by the Governor of Kentucky concerning the health and well being of our staff and the families we serve.  All services are private and under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
