David Forsythe Hutcheson Sr.

David Forsythe Hutcheson Sr. (81) of Paducah, Kentucky passed away peacefully into the precious hands of God on April 2, 2013 comfortably in his home. He was born October 16, 1931 in Morgantown, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara H. (Johnson) Hutcheson; his mother A. Mildred (Forsythe) Moore and her husband John A. Moore; his father Charles O. Hutcheson.

He is survived by two sons, David F. Hutcheson Jr. and his wife Crystal of Paducah, KY, Todd H. Hutcheson of Wellington, FL; three grandchildren Grant K. Hutcheson, Jack E. Hutcheson, and B. McCall Hutcheson as well as one brother, Charles O. Hutcheson Jr. of Morgantown, KY.

David was raised in Morgantown, Kentucky. He graduated from Morgantown High School in 1949. After graduating high school he joined the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After completing his time in the service, he attended the University of Kentucky. He graduated from UK with honors in 1958 obtaining a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduation he was employed by the Kentucky Highway Department while working on his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering. During this period in his life, he worked as a field engineer on the construction of both the Western Kentucky Parkway and the Kentucky Turnpike, which is now I-65. He obtained his Professional Engineer license in 1962 after obtaining his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from UK. After leaving employment with the State of Kentucky in 1964, he went to work as a traveling engineer for the Portland Cement Association. In 1968, Mr. Hutcheson co-founded Florence & Hutcheson Consulting Engineers, Inc. At Florence & Hutcheson, numerous projects were undertaken as the business was being built. Some of the projects that the company designed during this period included the Paducah I-24 Downtown Loop, the William F. Natcher/Green River Parkway, the Benton By-Pass, US-45 four-lane from Paducah to Mayfield, the GM Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, KY, the Waterson Expressway I-264 in Louisville, KY, and numerous other civil engineering and geotechnical projects. Florence & Hutcheson has now grown into one of the most preeminent civil engineering firms in the southeastern United States. In March 1981, David retired from Florence & Hutcheson to spend time with his family, work on land development projects, and numerous other entrepreneurial efforts. Following his retirement, David spent time with his wife traveling and playing golf until her untimely passing in 1991. Following the passing of his wife, he continued to enjoy his passion of fishing and hunting. He was a successful bass fisherman in local and national bass tournaments before competitive fishing was as big as it is today. During his recreational fishing career, he placed in the B.A.S.S. national and Operation Bass now FLW/BFL tournaments as well as winning numerous local tournaments on Kentucky/Barkley lakes. He was honored in the feature article the Operation Bass Cast Magazine for his fishing prowess on Kentucky Lake. He qualified for the first three Ranger Classics held by Operation Bass. During the last fifteen years, he met Anita Haws who was his long-time companion until her death in 2010. During this period, he traveled, worked on projects with his sons, fished with his grandkids, and enjoyed spending time with his little rescue dog named Trixie.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5-7 pm at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
