Connie High Daugherty

Connie High Daugherty, age 78 of Banock, KY, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2019.  Born on July 9, 1940 to the late Wallace and Martha Rexford High in a small community in North Florida, Mrs. Daugherty lived most of her life in Butler County.  She graduated from Miami High School in 1949. At that time she enrolled at Campbellsville College where she studied to become a teacher and graduated in the Spring of 1963.  In August of 1963, she married the love of her life, Chesley S. Daugherty, in Sweetwater, Florida.  She, a city girl, moved into beautiful Banock Hollow and lived there until five years ago when she became a resident of Morgantown Care & Rehab.   Connie began teaching Social Studies in the Butler County School System.  She was instrumental in bringing Special Education to the education district in those early years.  She taught at Butler County High until 1990 when she semi-retired.  In her “retirement”, Mrs. Daugherty taught at the Green River Detention Center where she helped many young men find hope in education.  Mrs. Daugherty has been a valuable member of the community of Butler County.  She served on the Butler County Library Board , was a past president of the Kentucky Association of Special Needs Educators, created the Butler County High Career Club, served as the advisor to the BCHS Newspaper, and over the years has been a member of numerous community committees and initiatives.  In her years as a member of the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, she served as Children’s Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher for all ages, Bulletin Editor, landscaper, and any other job she was requested to take on.  She also assisted in getting Seminary Extension classes to the pastors in Butler County in the 1990s.  Miss Connie, as she is known by many, loved teaching and touched numerous lives in and out of her classroom. From her bed at Morgantown Care, she continued to teach and grade papers and was always excited to hear from those who came to tell her of their success.   Connie High Daugherty is preceded in death by parents Wallace and Martha High; her husband Chesley Daugherty; one son Phillip High Daugherty and one sister Sandra Caraway. Surviving her to carry on the traditions and to meet new challenges are one son Patrick Daugherty (Lee Ann) of Morgantown, KY; step son Carl C.
