Chesley S. Daugherty

Chesley S. Daugherty, age 92 of Banock, KY, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016.  Born on October 1, 1924 to the late Enos and Audra Howard Daugherty, Mr. Daugherty lived most of his life in Butler County.  He graduated from Morgantown High School in April of 1944. For the next year he farmed on the family farm.  In March 1945, he joined his older brothers in service to his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps to serve in WWII.  He completed basic training at Paris Island with follow up training at Camps Le Jeune and Pendleton.  He was later was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Guam, China, San Diego, and Great Lakes Naval Station, Illinois.  Upon his discharge he returned to Butler County, where he married his first wife Verbal Cook, began his family with children Carl and JoAnn and farmed until 1960.  At that time he enrolled at Campbellsville College.  In August of 1963, he married his current wife Connie High in Sweetwater, Florida.  They moved into Banock Hollow and lived until his death in the log house built in 1895 by his grandparents, Van B. and Arpy Taylor Daugherty.   Chesley graduated from Campbellsville College in 1964 and began teaching Social Studies in the Butler County School System.  He taught there until 1980 and retired from Butler County High School.  Mr. Daugherty has been a distinct and stable member of the history and community of Butler County.  He helped to build the Butler County Library and over the years has been a member of numerous community committees and initiatives.  He saw great change over the course of his life and embraced life with a positive attitude and a generous spirit.  Those who know and love him will miss his spirit and zest for starting the next job.  Chesley Daugherty is preceded in death by one infant son Phillip Daugherty and three brothers Douglas, Wilbur and Kenneth Daugherty.   Surviving him to carry on the traditions and to meet new challenges is his loving wife Connie High Daugherty of Banock, Ky. ; three children Patrick Daugherty (Lee Ann) Banock, Ky., Carl C. Daugherty (fiancé Kaye Pendley Howard) of Banock, Ky. and JoAnn Campbell (Stewart) of Marietta GA; eight grandchildren Giles Taylor of Morgantown, Ky., Jared Daugherty of Russellville, Ky., Grant Daugherty (Jacquelyn) of Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Mandy Campbell (Carol) of Atlanta, GA, Jon Campbell (Jenny) of San Jose, California, Chelsea R. Daugherty (fiancé Josh Gilpin), Van T. Daugherty and Alex O. Daugherty all of Banock, Ky.; 5 great grandchildren and one nephew Dennis Daugherty (Sue) of Russellville, Ky.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt Vernon Missionary Baptist Church Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 2:00pm with Bro. Gerald Geary and Bro. Larry Orange officiating. Burial will be Mt Vernon Cemetery where military rights will be presented by the AM Vets Post #117. Visitation will be held at the Jones Funeral Chapel Tuesday November 1, 2016 from 3:00pm - 8:00pm and Wednesday from 8:00am until 1:00pm at the Jones Funeral Chapel and we will go in procession to Mt Vernon Missionary Baptist Church for the funeral at 2:00pm.
