Charles B. Kessinger

Charles B. Kessinger, affectionately known as Charlie to his friends and loved ones, entered into eternal rest on January 9, 2026, in Bloomington, Indiana, at the age of 89. Born on May 5, 1936, in Morgantown, Kentucky, to the late Hershel and Edythe Kessinger, nee Dockery, Charlie was a beacon of warmth and generosity throughout his life.

Charlie was predeceased by his beloved wife, Bernice H. Kessinger, nee Hunt, with whom he shared many joyful years and countless adventures exploring the United States and Canada. Their love for travel and each other was a testament to their enduring partnership. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael D. Kessinger; his sisters, Joyce DeWeese and Mildred Johnson Romans, and his parents.

He is survived by his daughter, Melinda J. Thickstun and her husband, Ken; his sister, Peggy Neighbors; two beloved grandchildren; and five cherished great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy and pride. Charlie's legacy of love and family values will live on through them.

Charlie's life was characterized by his deep Christian faith, which guided him in every aspect of his life. He was a living example of the biblical principle, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35), always extending a helping hand to those in need. His friendly demeanor and generous spirit were evident to all who knew him, and he was often described as the person who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought.

For over seven decades, Charlie was a proud and dedicated member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his skill, and he was respected by his peers for both his work ethic and his handy, problem-solving abilities.

Charlie's love for travel was only surpassed by his love for people. He made friends wherever he went, charming others with his stories and infectious laughter. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel like family, and his absence will be deeply felt by the many lives he touched.

As we bid farewell to Charlie, we remember the words of the renowned evangelist, Billy Graham: "My home is in Heaven. I'm just traveling through this world." Charlie has now completed his travels here on Earth and has been welcomed into his eternal home.

We take comfort in the knowledge that Charlie is now reunited with his wife, Bernice, his son, Michael, and other family members who have gone before him. His life was one of unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and immeasurable love-a life well-lived and a soul forever cherished. He professed his lifelong love for Christ as he was guided by the principles of his favorite Biblical scripture, Romans 10:9-13. Charlie's memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who were blessed to know him.

A Private graveside service will be held at Morgan Smith Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Jones Funeral Chapel.
