Cecil Shepard Cade

Cecil Shepard Cade, born October 12, 1924 in the Flener community of Butler County, KY - died Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Louisville, KY.
He was the son of Noah Monroe Cade and Myrtle Deweese Cade, who preceded him in death.     He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Taylor Cade and two sons,  Mark Steven and his wife Susan of New Tazewell, TN and  David Hale and his wife Stacy of Louisville, KY.  One grandson Adam Benjamin and his wife Michelle of Fort Rucker, AL, four granddaughters Brenna Elizabeth, Haley Rebecca, and Sommer Taylor, of Louisville, KY and Rachel Nicole of Memphis, TN, One sister Erma Cade Gray of Bowling Green, KY,  He was also  preceded in death by one sister Anna Cade.

Cecil’s primary schooling was in Butler County.  He spent time on the farm until being drafted to serve in the US Army in February 1945; where he served in the Phillipine Islands and was sent to Japan during the occupation following WWII, serving as Machine Gunner and Military Policeman  He was honorably discharged in December 1946, having earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. returned to farming.  He then attended college under the GI bill, studying Civil Engineering at Western Kentucky University and University of Kentucky.  He worked for the KY State Highway Department, then moved to Portsmouth, Ohio where he was employed by Peter Kewitt Co. during the construction of the Atomic Energy Plant.  He worked for Watkins Engineering  during the construction of the Kentucky Turnpike, and later he was superintendent for Ruby Construction Co.,  where he was involved in various projects including construction of dams, bridges, and roads until 1968 when he and Jean founded their own business, Cade Construction, Inc.  They specialized in concrete structures, primarily bridges and railroad trestles in Kentucky and Indiana. In 1982,  he moved to Warren County
where he farmed and raised registered Angus Cattle, he lived there until 2012 when he retired to Louisville, KY, to be nearer family.

In 1982, while a member  of Hurstbourne Baptist Church in Louisville, KY, Cecil served on the building committee for the new sanctuary.
Cecil  was a member of First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, KY, where he served several terms as deacon, he also  served on the building committees during the reconstruction of the sanctuary following the fire of 1991, and the building of the Recreation Center.
In addition he served on the building committees for the Warren Association of Baptists and the Hispanic Church in Bowling Green.
Cecil joined the Masonic Fraternity in 1947 and has his membership in Morgantown - Cassia Lodge #272, he is also a member of Banock Eastern Star #531.
Graveside services at Hill Haven Memorial Garden, on Tuesday, September 11, at 1:00 pm.
Memorial service to follow at First Baptist Church, Bowling Green at 4:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 517 w. 11th Street, Bowling Green, KY and designated to the construction of new homes.
