Aubrey Ray “Joe” Peay

Aubrey Ray “Joe” Peay, 84, of Reed, Kentucky, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Friday, September 30, 2016. Now he flies with the angels.

He was born March 25, 1932, in Butler County, Kentucky, one of eight children, to the late Aubrey Peay and Katie Peay. Joe graduated from Rochester High School in 1952. He worked at Swift’s and retired from Alcoa after 29 years. He enjoyed going to estate sales and auctions and working on cars. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his three children, Shirley Hunt Peay, who died in 2008; his wife of 24 years, Francis M. Peay, who died in 2000; his wife of 11 years, Vicki L. Peay, who died in 2013; one infant brother, Alec Peay; two brothers, Elbert Peay and his wife, Auguste, and Albert Peay; one brother-in-law, Shelby Wester; and one stepdaughter, Brenda Simpson, who died in 2000.

Survivors include his “babies,” Bella and Gizmo; one son, Ricky Peay of Newburgh, Indiana; two daughters, Joni Peay of Evansville, Indiana, and Lori Peay Jones and her husband, Robert, of Newburgh, Indiana; two stepsons, Roy Downey and his wife, Kathleen, of Henderson, Kentucky, and Tony Downey and his wife, Cindy, of Corydon, Kentucky; two brothers, Roscoe Peay and his wife, Judy, of Phoenix. Arizona, and Tyler Peay and his wife, Doris, of Morgantown, Kentucky; two sisters, his twin Katie “Jean” Ferrell and her husband, Vinyard, of Quality, Kentucky, and Annie Wester of Rochester, Kentucky; one sister-in-law, Wanda Peay of Evansville, Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Reverend Donald Duncan will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
