Alma Dale Tomes

Alma Dale Tomes, a beacon of love and strength, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, in Morgantown, Kentucky, at the age of 85. Born on May 7, 1939, in Millerstown, Kentucky, Dale, as she was affectionately known, was a woman whose life was defined by her adventurous spirit, courageous heart, and selfless devotion to her family.

Dale's journey began as the cherished daughter of Aud and Odaline Powell Logsdon. She grew up surrounded by the love of her siblings, Hershel, Jeraldine, Larry, Gary, and Evelyn Logsdon, all of whom preceded her in death. Her path in life was one of companionship and shared dreams with her beloved husband, Charles E. Tomes, who also preceded her in death, as did her daughter Sharon England and granddaughter Carley Tomes.

Her legacy continues through her loving family, including her children Beverly Butler (Wendell) of Springfield, TN, Lisa Tomes of Morgantown, KY, and Charlie Tomes (Christie) of Morgantown, KY. Dale's joy was multiplied by her 11 grandchildren: Bobbi Fulcher (Robert) of Russellville, KY, Casie Hopkins of Morgantown, KY, Matt Butler (Morgan) of Florance, KY, Miranda Bowen (Marty) of Lebanon, TN, Dusten Kirby (Emily) of Lafayette, TN, Rachel Cornelius (Isiah) of Lafayette, TN, Ariel Weddle (Andrew) of Shepherdsville, KY, Whitley Foster (Logan), Gracie Mercer (Troy), Brayden, and Braxton Tomes all of Morgantown, KY. Her great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable happiness, include Rylie, Beau, and Remi Dale Fulcher; Skylar, Brooke, and Kaylee Hopkins; Madison and Makenna Bowen; Camille Butler; Cameron and Knox Kirby; Willow Cornelius; and Navy Mercer.

Dale's family circle also includes her son-in-law Joe England of Falls of Rough, KY; her siblings Jimmy Logsdon (Helen) of Elizabethtown, KY, Sue Edwards of Short Creek, KY, and Barbara Mahurin of Tousey, KY; sister-in-laws Nona Logsdon of Short Creek, KY, and Cheryl Logsdon of Leitchfield, KY; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Throughout her life, Dale was a hardworking and dedicated individual. She was a member of the Christian Home Church of Christ, where she cultivated a community of faith and friendships. She spent several years at Kanes, served guests at the Hillside Inn, and worked tirelessly alongside her husband on their farm, caring for the cattle. Dale's interests were as rich and varied as her life. She was an exceptional cook, known for her delicious meals that brought everyone together and enjoyed gardening. Dale never met a stranger, and her open heart and home were a testament to her welcoming spirit. Above all, Dale cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For her, family was everything.
